Finding Out

 

Have you heard of Pablo Torre and/or his podcast “Pablo Torre Finds Out”?  I’ve been a curious follower for awhile now and am delighted when Pablo shows up frequently on TV shows I watch. Maybe you noticed he won a Pulitzer prize. 

His angle is sports. And boy, there is so much to “find out” about our most popular fixation. The Pulitzer is for his investigative journalism which brought down a tech billionaire, an all star player, and an NBA team. Of course it was about money. Just today I read in Pablo’s podcast about how a beloved college and NFL quarterback is the front man for a religious scam operation. Of course it's about money. The news is that the quarterback is stepping back from his sordid association.

It all seems so collapsable. Pull one block and the Tower falls.

Simple Yet Complex

My grandson Diego, who is autistic, is in a program that includes working at a Walgreens.  He was proud to earn $10.  What to do?  Save or spend?  Spend on what?   It was his decision to make.

It occurred to me that somewhere in this small story are most of the complexities of life.

 I'm going to call it the "Gloria Steinem Luncheon." Yes, the hostess was my friend Lisa.  She was treating us all as thanks for helping her recover from a serious leg injury.  As I looked around the table at the enormously attractive women, chatting about their full lives, I wondered if they knew how remarkable it was--and will always be--to me.

I'm not going to gloss over learning that a few were looking for work, or a change.  It's the opportunities here for them.  That's what Gloria imagined for us all ... and made happen.
